With regard to “ways” of listening, aside from the use of Linear intervalic scales which (although chromatic) toy with the concept of octave equivalence, this piece ostensibly deals with context & naming conventions. i.e., if this piece was called “Opus 794”, would you hear (& play) it differently from an identical piece called “Kites in Wales”? Similarly, if you knew that this piece was written after research into either (or both) “thermodynamics” & “bird song”, would it make a difference?
